Fish Report for 2-22-2013
Royal Polaris saved the best fishing for the last day
2-22-2013
Royal Polaris Crew
As so often it seems, we saved the best fishing for the last day. We moved in the morning and started looking for bird schools on the open water and spotted what turned out to be a glory hole which we're calling Yamate Bank in honor of our Capt. For our half a day of fishing we scored 38 wahoo and 22 tuna, and a bunch of the tuna were nice ones.
Nick Didovic Jr. got the best fish of day and trip with a 279# off the kite. Bob Michener, our Accurate rep. got a 248 which is the best bait fish on board (aka Jackpot winner), Tom Neuman got a 224 kite fish. One other angler did particularly well today also. If you've been following the reports, you'll know that except for the first day when I introduced myself, I haven't had my name in any of the reports. The reason being of course that up until today, I've caught nothing note worthy. Those who have fished with me know I have a reputation of pulling a big fish out at the last minute, and this trip is no exception. I (Larry Eilbott) was up on the kite early and got splashed by and landed a 264. There were two Accurate reels up for prizes today for the first two fish over 200.....caught on bait.
After a brief rest I went out with a sardine and hooked and landed a 228 which was good enough for a reel. This was probably my first 2 over 2 day ever, thanks Capt. Jonathan for the move! Since all the before mentioned fish were caught on the kite, one reel remains unclaimed and will be raffled off tomorrow. A couple of the fish today were in the 70 pound class with the majority weighing anywhere from 125-170 pounds and of course 5 over 200. The wind backed off and it was a very pleasant day all around. With 3 wells of fish and a tired group of anglers we our now headed for the Cape. I will file one more report tomorrow which will sum up the trip as I see it, but it will be mostly a tackle break down, pack up day.
P.S. The Seaforth Sportfishing Wahoo bombs have been on fire this trip!
