2012 Feisty Fish Guide Service Year in Review

It's that time of year again, ducks are flying and Salmon are safe for another season. As 2012 comes to an end, I just want to thank all of you for your support this past year and plug you in on the coming years events. I was as busy this year as I have ever been, and loved every minute of it. From a wide open Striper bite, to the best King Salmon fishing the Sacramento Valley has seen in a decade, what a year it was! I would like to tell you about this past year, and also mention the upcoming fishing in 2013.

What a year it was for both Striped Bass and especially King Salmon! The 2012 Striper season was full of excitement and many smiles. It was a shorter season in 2012 than 2011 due to lower water conditions, but we sure put the hurting on them. There were thousands of small school size fish, and I can't wait to see what the 2013 run is going to look like. I think we're in for a surprise! From Stripers, I focused my energy on getting ready for the King Salmon opener on July 16th. July started off solid and as the season progressed, so did the fishing. It was a spectacular season with limits to near limits almost every trip I ran from July 16th until mid- October. Not only did we catch lots of fish, the fish were huge. Unlike the 2011 season where we primarily caught jack Salmon, we were catching Kings with a 18-20 pound average! Since wrapping up King Salmon fishing in mid-October, I have been Waterfowl hunting. The season has been fair to date, but the best has yet to come. The majority of northern ducks have started to migrate due to freezing temperatures up north, and the valley should really start seeing a very large push of ducks in the next week. Well, since we're all caught up on the years events, I would like to talk about what's to come in the 2013 season.

From now until the end of January, I will continue Waterfowl hunting. This year I am also offering fully guided dry field goose hunting. Unlike shooting ducks & geese out of our rice blinds, we set large goose spreads over dry fields and target geese out of layout blinds. It is a very unique experience shooting geese this way! From Waterfowl hunting, I will switch gears immediately to Sturgeon fishing on the Sacramento River. I will fish Sturgeon from February 1st until the end of March. This is the best time to target these prehistoric beasts! Starting around the last week in March, the Stripers will start invading the Sacramento & Feather rivers for their yearly migration to spawn. The prime time to fish Stripers is between April 5th and April 30th... If you know you're going to want to book a Striper trip, please reserve your date after the new year because this is my most popular trip and space fills fast. From Stripers, we will start Salmon fishing around the middle of July. If this coming year is anything like the last, this is not a trip you would want to miss. From Salmon, I get back in the Waterfowl game and the whole cycle begins again.

I want to thank everyone for taking the time to read this email. I like keeping all of you in the loop and letting you know what's to come. I wish you and your families a safe and joyful holiday season, and can't wait to see you on the water soon!!!

Best wishes,

Capt. Scott Feist
