Fish Report for 12-3-2012
100 lb. Sturgeon, 72 inches in length taken at Lake Del Valle
12-3-2012
Del Valle Marina
Marina Hours: 6:00 am to 8:00 pm
Park Hours: 6:00 am to 9:00 pm.
Last Plant: November 26, 1,000 lbs. of Trout were planted. On November 29, 2012 4,000 lbs. of Trout were planted from Mosccasin Creek.
Water Temperature: 56 degrees
They are getting lots of rains at Lake Del Valle. The water level is rising slowly and there is little to no visibility. Trout are coming on now. They are hitting egg/worm combos, PowerBait and small lures. Trolling seems to work best right now for trout. It is best to fish the water column at depths of 3 & 4 ft.
Striped Bass are hitting swimbaits and top water plugs. Black bass and smallmouth are down right now but have been hitting Rat-l-traps, Rooster Tails and Panther Martins.
The all time lake record for Sturgeon was caught on Monday by Gary Howard. The fish weighed in at 100 lbs. and was 72 inches in length.

Doc Al's Report
Abbey Lev of Sunnyvale and Al Hurwitz of Saratoga caught 4 Smallmouth Bass trolling in roughly 20 to 35 foot of water column, with the fish 15-20 feet below the surface. The fish were caught along rocky walls in the Narrows and Heron Bay, using Panther Martins and Rooster Tails. The stringer weight was a little over 5 lbs. with most fish ranging from 1 to 2 lbs. The strikes were very hard, as the fish were feeding aggressively in preparation for winter. However, we had to be quite precise with the lure presentation for the bass to hit. We had no luck trolling with artificial lures for trout (Rapalas and spinners), probably because the lake is quite low. Anglers seem to be doing better for trout, using PoswerBait. Hopefully with the rains, the higher lake level will make flat line trolling with artificials for trout along the shoreline more successful.
All the best,
Dr. Al Hurwitz
