Fellow Sportsmen,
I'm back from vacation. It was great being up in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and off the grid. We had some great times got some great meat for the freezer but now it's time to get back to work. I move the boat up to Martinez on Monday. I did all the maintenance and equipment changeover on Tuesday. Wednesday was the 1st trip of the season for sturgeon and striped bass. I had a group of 4 mainly beginners and they could only fish for 5 hours. We actually had some pretty good action considering the time element. So it look good for the season. We hooked 6 fish 2 sturgeon were released, too short, one bass released to short, one keeper bass in the box. We had one Sturgeon to the boat that was twisted up the line and put up a fight right the boat and rip the line up and got away. We had another sturgeon hooked up. The gentleman from Kansas was fighting a fish when I noticed. It looked pretty good as the rod was loaded up. I don't think he set the hook because after a short battle it spit the hook. We were fishing about 1 mile above the Mothball fleet in 25 feet of water. The best baits were J P S ( Just Plain Shrimp) and Salmon Roe. The best action was during the flood tide. Today's trip was rescheduled due to the weather. Hopefully with the rains more fish will be moving down. It is good to be back! Enjoy the photo.
