The Fly Shop
Current River Conditions: Steelhead fishing has been best near Junction City. However, keep in mind steelhead are moving towards the hatchery in Lewiston. Might be a good idea to try some of the water above Douglas City. River conditions are excellent. You will find there are many, many salmon in the river! Egg patterns may be your best fly! Expect crowded conditions.
In case you don't know, the Fly Only Section is located from the Old Bridge in Lewiston, CA. upstream to with-in 250ft of the dam. This section is seasonal and currently open as of April 1st through the summer.
The Fly Shop's ? Tips: A variety of techniques, using your 8-9 wt rod for Salmon, or a more adaptable 5-6 wt fly rod for small steelhead and aggressive browns will tie you into fish. Suspending nymphs under an indicator, stripping buggers and leeches, swinging muddlers or PT nymphs will produce hook-ups! Even dry flies should be in the plan. Bring a parachute Adams! Hey! The King Salmon will eat nymphs suspended under indicators. What a blast!
