Mike Lackey docked his Vagabond at Pt. Loma Sportfishing September 8 after a six-day excursion with 24 anglers.
"We fished offshore," said Mike, "and had lots of action and very good fishing. We may be seeing a warm water event; it was 73 degrees not far from here and another boat called in a report of 81 degrees off Pt. Eugenia. It's coming this way."
Bob Camp of Fallbrook won first place for a 47.6-pound tuna he got with a sardine on a 6/0 Owner Super Mutu hook and 60-pound Seaguar Premier fluorocarbon tied to 80-pound Line One spectra on an Accurate BX-2 500 reel and an Accurate seven-foot rod.
John Medler of Mission Viejo won second place for a 44-pounder, and Joe Morrison of Fullerton won third place for a 41-pound yellowfin tuna.
