Leadcore line's given name defines it well: various filaments are woven into a tubular shape with a solid single strand of the malleable alloy running through the center.

Until recently, leadcore-one of the oldest known methods for managing depth when trolling-hadn't changed much... er, at all since it was first devised.

Then the engineers at Sufix joined forces with top anglers, and 'lo and behold,' leadcore got its first-ever significant facelift, and it goes by the name Sufix 832 Advanced Lead Core. It's a true game changer when deploying crankbaits, spoons and spinners into the water columns with complete depth and lure control.

"By replacing leadcore's traditional exterior of polyester threads with 832's 7-Dyneema ?-fibers-plus-1 GORE Performance Fiber [yes, the same used in making the sophisticated 832 Advanced Superline] we are able to wrap a larger amount of lead with 'R8 Precision Braiding,' which creates a tighter weave, for a leadcore line that's 70-percent stronger and dives 30-percent deeper," says Ben Miller, Project Manager in Rapala's much admired product development department. "Not only are anglers able to get their lures fathoms deeper with less line out, but the new material increases sensitivity to the rod tip, and allows for the use of lighter than traditional leadcore rods and reels."

In short: 832 Advanced Lead Core slices through the water easier, sinks faster, is doubly sensitive and makes trolling more exciting than ever.

Cutting Complexities
With yesteryear's leadcore, because less weight was infused, and due to its coarse outer fabric, the slightest adjustment in boat speed would change the depth of a lure dramatically; basically, the faster you trolled the more a bow would form in the line and pull the lure towards the surface. The 'slick' exterior of Sufix 832 Advanced Lead Core absorbs less water and has reduced resistance which lessens the lift. Lures now stay in the critical strike zone longer, even trolling briskly at speeds up to 3.0 MPH.

"832 Advanced Lead Core has increased my catch dramatically. I just love the way it handles," says Tom Neustrom, veteran guide and Rapala pro out of Grand Rapids, Minnesota. "In the past, trolling with leadcore was a hands-off, rod-in-the-rod-holder technique. Now I have my clients hang on to the rod and they can feel every pulse of a Rapala crankbait, and know if the lure is fouled with weeds. And then there's the strike, which they can feel and immediately set the hook."

Neustrom also fancies the fact that 832 Advanced Lead Core can be spooled onto smaller reels instead of the over-sized gear needed for conventional 'core. "The colors are more vibrant with 832 as well. You can see how much line is out," adds the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Famer Neustrom.

Keeping with tradition, 832 Advanced Lead Core is metered with colors changing every 10 yards (30 feet). This allows anglers to monitor the amount of line out with exactness. This is crucial in deep clear-water applications of the Great Lakes, where leadcore is often set out 200 yards. Brighter, easier-to-see colors means deployment is quicker, which translates into more fish caught during a hot bite.

Attaching leader line to 832 Advanced Lead Core is simple, too. Just tie on a quality ball-bearing swivel and then a 10-foot leader of Sufix 100% Fluorocarbon Invisiline Leader in the pound test of your choosing.
