Capt. Frank reports on the Ranger 85 latest trip

Frank Ursitti - Ranger 85

Hi Everyone,

We returned Sunday evening from a 3.5 day trip aboard the Ranger 85. The trip was a huge success with great weather and awesome offshore action.

We started the first day fishing Bluefin with only moderate success. With 20 Blues in the hold, and what appeared to be a tapering bite, we headed south for waters less occupied. Taking a gamble, but looking at a satellite shot of good water, we headed 150 miles south of San Diego.

We spent the night offshore outside of San Martin Island and began our search for kelps. The morning started slow with very little sign of life, but some of the best water we have seen in some time...blue...blue...blue and 71degrees. Then, like a beacon in the night, our first kelp of size. We sprang into action like seasoned veterans battling a worthy opponent.

We managed to find a line with not another boat on the horizon...my kind of fishing. Yellows were mixed grade with fish in the 30lb class. The Dorado we engaged were tackle testers as well. The action was non-stop till dark. By trips end we had amassed a catch of 302 Yellows, 139 Dorado and 20 Bluefin Tuna. What a great way to spend a few days offshore.

There appears to be new fish moving in each and every day so don't delay when looking to fish offshore this season. The water is warmer than last and opportunities are good. The best is yet to come as I feel the remaining days of August and all of September and October will offer us great opportunity offshore.

Check our complete schedule of trips online for both the Coral Sea and Ranger 85 at CoralSeaSportfishing.com and Ranger85.com. The Coral Sea is featuring a schedule of ULTRA LIMITED LOAD trips carrying only 17 anglers.

With the latest in electronics and a crew that will work hard till the sun goes down these trips are sure to satisfy any angler's quest for action. The Ranger 85 has trips from 1.5 to 3.5 days in duration and this season is just getting started. Check your calendar and schedule you trip today.

We look forward to fishing with you,

Capt. Frank

Great fishing and good weather continue here in San Diego and the prospects look outstanding for this season to bust wide open. Schools of Bluefin remain spread over a broad area and as the water warms and pushes north kelp paddies are holding Yellows, Dorado and Tuna. As this trend continues scores remain on the uptick. The quality and grade of the Bluefin and Yellowfin is something we only dream about in the 1-3 day range. These past few days have...... Read More
