Ryan Bostian talks about "high risk, high reward" offshore fishing

Ryan Bostian
Hello gang,
Checking in with the fishing report for the past week. As I mentioned last week we have been fishing offshore due to some political issues that are keeping us away from the Coronado islands. These political issues are being worked on tirelessly by our association our port officials and even the mayors office. A very important meeting is taking place this Monday and hopefully a resolution is near.
As far as our fishing , our numbers have been low but the fish we have been catching have been very exotic. Our trip on Monday came in with 15 bluefin tuna and 13 yellowtail. The best way I can describe offshore fishing is "high risk, high reward". Whenever we are offshore we are only seconds away from turning a slow day into a phenomenal day. One sweep of the sonar, one scan with the binoculars, one kelp paddy, offshore fishing can go from boredom to chaos in a matter of seconds.
As far as being prepared for these trips, a 20 lb. and a 30 lb. bait rod is all you need right now. On the kelp paddies we have been using 30 lb. on the bluefin schools we have been using 20 lb. These offshore trips are limited to 49 passengers and cost $115 which includes a fishing license. See you on the water !
