Lower Otay Reservoir Staff

On July 18th it was reported that bluegill were biting real good on wax & mealworms. Crappie were biting on nibbles and mealwroms. Bass were biting top water baits, crank baits or floating mice. Several large Catfish were taken on nightcrawlers and mackerel.

On July 21 Bluegill were reported to be biting in Harvey's Arm. The Crappie bite was good and several Catfish were caught in the 8 to 10 lb. range at the Rock pile and in front of the Rowing peir on either nightcrawlers or mackerel.

On July 22nd there were a lot of 20 to 25 fish stringers of Bluegill being caught. The Crappie bite has slowed some and the Catfish bite was good if you knew where to look. The best Catfish bait was chicken liver, anchovies or mackerel. The bass bite is real good especially if you used floating mice, crank baits and plastic worms.

Above Photo: Herman Atkins from San Diego caught a nice stringer of Largemouth and Bluegill. The largemouth weighed 4.5 lbs. and 2 Bluegill were over 1 lb.
