Fish Report for 7-7-2012
Scott McDaniels takes a look at Tuna fishing opportunities in the 100 mile range

Scott McDaniels
Scott McDaniels called in with this report, "There is a good influx of Yellowtail. Guys are getting Yellowtail at 80 miles now and they go down to 117 miles. So it is possible to do a 1 Day Trip and get out there and do some fun. I think a 1.5 is a little bit better because of the range and you get to fish all the way until dark.
And there is some Bluefin down there at 117 miles. Having a little more time can sometimes make a difference. Sometimes it just takes a little more time to put a Bluefin count together. But the good thing is that there is a lot of Yellowtail around. And also on the inside, just above Punta Bunda there's signs of Bluefin, guys are seeing them, but they're not catching them.
"I would think that the best bang for your buck right now is a 1.5 Day Trip or a 2.5 Day Trip if you can do it. Lots of fun and the early departures will get you down the road further. So make sure that you have an early departure. You'll need 20, 30 qnd 40 lb. test. Once in awhile the big hogs show up. There are guys are getting fish all the way up to 74 lbs., I've heard of a 100 pounder caught. If you have a 60 lb rod and reel in your garage, bring it out just in case the big tuna show up. You'll also need 30 lb. fluorocarbon, you can put that on 30 lb or 40 lb mono. So make sure you pick up some Blackwater fluorocarbon, 30 lb. test. You'll also need some 1/0,2/0 & 3/0 hooks depending on how they are biting. If they aren't biting real good drop down your hook size. If they are biting real good go with a little heavier line and use a little bit bigger hook.
"OK that's it, we hope to see you down on the docks here. Please look for the Sea Adventure 80 & H & M Landing, San Diego. Call H & M Landing at 619-222-1144. Book your next trip with Sea Adventure 80. We sure hope to see you soon."
