Pacific Dawn Gets Into the White Seabass
6-29-2012
John Thompson
The White Seabass numbers the last few days have been outrageous, so it looks like we timed our charter on the PACIFIC DAWN at just the right time. We had 20 anxious anglers that arrived early at VENTURA SPORTFISHING ready to do battle. Capt Johnny greeted everyone as we boarded and gave us our safety briefing and told us we were headed for Santa Rosa Island as the bite around Anacapa and Santa Cruz had pretty much shut down from all the pressure. Our bait tanks were already full of squid, so there would be no stopping to make bait and a good nights rest was in order for us all.
We arrived at the fishing grounds and dropped anchor before grey light, within minutes we were all up on the deck soaking baits. It took a while before the first yell of hookup came and it turned out that we had 2 folks hooked up, they made quick work of them and we soon had our first 2 halibut on the deck. The seabass finally showed and we had a steady pick of seabass through out the morning. Our final count was 6 halibut, 22 whiteseabass and about 12 barracuda. They bite shut off around 11am and we then headed out to top off the bags with some rockfish.
To get in on the action and get your seabass give the landing a call at 805-676-3474 and reserve your spots. If you would like any of these pictures you can email me at john@sportfishingreport.com and I will gladly forward them to you.
