Kids Love Fishing

6-29-2007

Frank LoPreste docked his Royal Polaris June 29, following the annual kid's trip, and there were plenty of kids aboard the rig. Most of them posed for a group shot with their Cedros Island yellowtail. Some of the plentiful yellows were about as tall as the kids.

The adult jackpot was won by Robert DeLoach of Rancho Cucamonga, for a 51-pound yellowtail. He said it came to him on a sardine and a 4/0 Super Mutu hook. He used 40-pound Izorline on a Trinidad 40 reel and a Calstar 700 M rod.

Kevin Wyman and Blake Kosimo are both from Laguna Niguel, and they took second and third places for yellows of 42.2 and 36.4 pounds, respectively.

Bradley Gaudy won the kid's jackpot for a 44-pound yellowtail. He posed with his granddad Dan Gaudy, and said he got his big fish with a mackerel bait.

The rest of the kids who won jackpot spots were, in order: Olivia Bohrer, Bradley Gaudy, Nichole Louchios, Lauren Vellonakis, Dominic Mullay and Adam Louchios.

Anglers aboard the Royal Polaris found 38 albacore while traveling, and a pair of halibut at the island.
