It's a smorgasborg of bugs on the Truckee River, a virtual Buffet for trout
6-11-2012
Matt Koles
It's a smorgasbord of bugs up here on the Truckee River. Flows are a perfect 520 coming out of Boca. The upper river just got some water in it today with releases out of Tahoe. Green Drakes are finally out in good numbers, pmds, caddis, yellow stones, and now some goldens. Looks like a Hometown Buffet on a Friday night.
Find out what fish are keyed on, and success shall come. Start off in the a.m. with pmd, or drake nymph off the back of a rubberlegs, or Skipper Stone. Change that dropper up to a G-6 around noon. Have a dry fly rod ready to go, better yet, fish the skinny stuff with a dry dropper rig. We got a nice brown today on a big dry. Not the best streamer weather now, bright and sunny, unless you fish them early, or late. Make sure you stick around for some caddis action in the evening. Have some of my Snowshoe Caddis ready. A big time producer here on the Truckee.
