The water temperatures remained good throughout the week but the water clarity fell apart, turned green, and the billfish disappeared from the area. Very unusual for this time of year and it may take another week to get the clarity back into order before the billfish return. With any luck at all, Tropical Storm Bud will move the water sufficiently to entice the fish back into the area. While there were a few quality sized dorado taken this past week, the offshore boats were very limited to the fish bite and the fleet did have a few skunk flags flying. Adding to the difficult bite situation was the lack of anglers and the calendar reflected 4 days without any boats offshore fishing. The inshore super pangas reflected only 4 inshore fishing days that resulted in 21 red snapper, 5 triggerfish, 20 jack crevalle, 5 barracuda and 6 perch for their efforts. The inshore fishing conditions were an extension of the dirty, off-colored offshore waters that also created some difficult fishing for those anglers, too.

Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy days with intermittent sunshine and temps that ranged from 64 nights to 91 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Water temps were good at 83 degrees all over, but the clarity was very poor and hampered the catching. Sea surface conditions were mostly calm with 2-5 mph tropical breezes.

Best Fishing Area: None reported.

Best Bait/Lure: The rigged trolling baits took the dorado for the anglers.

Bait Supply: Good supply of fresh rigging baits and live bait.
