San Pedro Bait Company talks about the squid, sardines & anchovies
5-17-2012
Todd Phillips
Good morning Anglers,
Now that the super full moon is gone, there have been some bait spots of regulation size live squid moving into our local waters. We were able to take advantage of that last night and bring back squid to the Newport and San Pedro barges early this morning. If necessary, we will go tank up again to make sure we have enough for the weekend.
As far as fishing, there has been increasing numbers of seabass, and some very large ones too, caught at many of the local and island spots over the past couple of weeks. Displayed above is "Team Kingsmill" with one of thier "tankers" caught on the mini squids we delivered last weeekend.
The Pamela Rose saw a lot of large barracuda and a nice size yellowtail last night outside the lights at Catalina, which is another great sign to see as this season is finally developing into something.
Newport has some killer cured sardines that have been in the barge for a month, as well as small to medium size anchovies. San Pedro has small to medium size anchovies and sardinesas well.
We will have the Bounty in the Isthmus area this weekend with live squid to service those fishing in the Western Outdoor News tournament, or just fishing for fun. You can reach him on Channel 11.
The Newport Barge is open 24/7 and can be reached on Ch 79 on the VHF or call direct 310-461-5370 or direct connect 124*68731*2.
The San Pedro Barge's hours are Mon-Thurs 5 am - 5 pm and returning Friday 5 am - Sunday 5 pm. They can be reached on Ch 11 on the VHF or call direct 310-365-2516.
Good luck and good fishing!!

Good morning Anglers, We came across some live squid last night. The bait is on the small side, but it still smells and tastes the same. You get a lot more per scoop so putting a few on each hook would be a good choice! Both Newport and San Pedro have the tasty critters. To go along with the mini squids, Newport has some killer cured sardines that have been in the barge for a month and San Pedro has small to...... Read More
