Fish Report for 5-12-2012
Keeping Up with Kevin Brock & Kevin's thoughts about the fishing season
5-12-2012
Kevin Brock
A quick note about locations: Kevin is fishing in the Sacramento River near Colusa for feisty springtime stripers. Shad are coming, and Redding wild trout are on the bite.
Striper Fishing Excellent on Sacramento River
The striper fishing this spring has been consistently excellent, with limits the rule, and double and triple hookups common.
Drifting live minnows has been the key to these feisty fish. While most have been in the 4 to 5 pound class, the largest of the week was a beautiful 26 pound striper.
The fish are spread out from Tisdale to Knight's Landing. While some sections of the river can be crowded, we've been fishing the quieter waters below the Meridian Bridge, and doing great.
The stripers should be biting well for another two to three weeks. To catch some stripers with a chance at a jumbo-sized fish (they're in there, and you never know when one will bite!), call 800-995-5543.
Shad Are Coming!
The shad are coming! Shad are being caught in the American River, and should be arriving in the north state area as early as next week.
Phenomenal Wild Trout Fishing
It's wild rainbow time! Trout fishing in the Sacramento River near Redding is great. A recent trip with 2 anglers featured an amazing 95 trout (at 1-4 pounds each) in two days. That's an average of one fish every 10 minutes!
2012 Salmon Season Outlook Looks Great
From all indications, it looks like this year's salmon run will be great, and everyone is really looking forward to it. Spots are filling fast, so be sure to reserve a date soon.
It's Time To Go Fishing!
All in all, it's fantastic spring fishing action. Don't wait, get it while it's good! Call 800-995-5543 today, and get out there and catch some fish.
Happy Mother's Day!
To all the moms out there, have a great Mother's Day! Take some time off, relax, and enjoy the day - you deserve it!

There were doubles and triples so we lost count of a few. Our biggest fish was around 6 lbs. caught by Tom. Lots and lots of schooling...... Read More
