Today, 5/11 we are getting a 2,000 lb. private trophy plant! Trout fishing from shore is best in the early morning hours, our gate opens at 5:30 am for day use customers. Our day fishermen are telling us that the bite (for the trout) ends around 10am from shore. Boaters can expect to catch trout all day long if they are trolling between 10 to 20 ft. down and some of the best trolling lures are Rapalas, Rebels, Kastmasters, & Needlefish. Trollers are also catching trout on worms, worms and flashers, or worms and dodgers.

The Lowe's & the Libby's have been catching fish all week long and Ron Lowe caught the biggest Bass of his fishing career at Collins Lake and he's been coming here for over 30 years, since he was a youngster. Ron's wife Amy caught her hook on Ron's hat and it flew in the lake (causing Ron to go on a pout) and Ron had decided at that point he was done fishing for the day!! His little brother Steve wouldn't let him get away with that so after putting his favorite fluke on Ron's pole it only took a few seconds for Ron to toss it in and BAM!! on the first cast Ron, see phopt above hooked a 7 lb. 8 oz. Largemouth Bass. We have to also give Steve credit for netting it because it barely fit in his trout net. As both of them were telling me their fishing tale they both agreed they were IN THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME!!

Ron's wife Amy, photo #1 caught a Catfish that weighed in near 6 lbs. and Logan Turner caught 3 trout. Fred & Steve Lowe have been catching Bass everyday using flukes or plastic worms. All in All their campout and fishing trip was a HUGE success.

Since the lake has warmed to a surface temp around 73 degrees, the bass fishing is fantastic right now. The CBAF Kid's Bass Camp was last weekend and a huge percentage of the kids caught Bass on Sunday. My grandaughter Macy Rose caught 3 and her fishing partner Jezzy caught the biggest. They went out with a Pro name Dick in his Skeeter Bass boat and felt like they were real pros themselves!!

Ryan Barella from the wine country brought up a couple of buddies and they cleaned up on the trout, photo #4 (15 total) and they were trolling with worms all over the lake. Richard Rowland limited out too while trolling Needlefish or worms.

Chris Hazen limited out by 10 am for trout, he is the one that told me to let people know that the trout bite is best from opening until 10 am from the shore! Bill Evrigenis & Zeke Ladd used crankbaits from shore and caught 2 Bass along with a trout off powerbait. Sherry Rose was happy to catch her 2 lb. 4 oz. Bass using a worm on the bottom. Tanner, Kaleb, Lacey, Tony, & Papa had a great day fishing off the beach with worms they caught 3 trout and a Catfish.

Another 3 generational party (Nana, Grandpa Dave, Grandma Carol, Papa Trent, Mom & Dad and Andrew, Lacey, & Uncle Tyler fished as a team and hooked fish two days in a row! On the 9th they caught bluegill and trout in Elmer's Cove and on the 10th they fished Elmer's Cove and the beach and got four more Trout using Powerbait.

Jose caught the biggest Catfish this week, a 5 lb. 8 oz. on worms by his campsite and he is pictured with his lovely girls, Heather, Janessa, & Jazlene. Jared Vargas of Woodland caught the biggest Trout this week, a 3 lb. 5 oz. Rainbow he hooked by the dock on a worm. Wyatt Crocker caught his 1ST FISH EVER this week by the dam on Powerbait.

Daisy & her "dukes", photo # 5 compiled the biggest stringer of Bass I've seen in awhile (25 total) !!! They were visiting from Oregon but used to live near here and used their old favorite, a Fish Frog Alabama Rig.
