Trout fishing at Laguna Nigel continues strong, but Bass fishing is CRAZY!

52,500lbs of rainbow trout have been stocked since Nov 2011
LAST trout stocking was stocked on Tuesday April 10th!
TROUT: Rainbow trout fishing continues to be productive. Most fisherman reporting 5 fish limits. Best areas are by the bubble holes located in front of the concession building and in deeper water by the dam. Night crawlers dipped in garlic scent has been working best for bait. Fly fisherman still catching quality fish in the flats on bead head nymphs. Early morning and late afternoon have been the most productive times. Crank baits such as the 'mirror shad' in assorted colors have been catching the larger fish. Fishing from shore has been fair, best bet is in deep water!
BASS fishing is CRAZY!!!!
Laguna Niguel Lake is pumping out big numbers of quality bass to 12 lbs in size!! Fisherman are reporting an average of 15-20 bass a day pitching 7" robo worms around the perimeter of the lake in cover and around both islands. Best colors have been Aarons magic/red flake and purple. Some big bass have been reported hitting crank baits in bluegill and crappie patterns around the three pipes area. The bass fishing is truly the best we have seen in the past 6 years...Time to Rip some Lips!!
BLACK CRAPPIE are EVERYWHERE!!!
Huge numbers of quality crappie to 3lbs in size continue to bend rods and amaze fisherman with the massive numbers of big crappie. Best baits have been small crank baits such as the 'mirror shad' and the Normans 'crappie' crank bait in orange, black and silver. Crappie jigs tipped with a meal worm has also been working well. Trophy sized crappie continue to stage up in deeper water from the big island to the dam. Massive numbers of crappie have taken over the flats in the center of the lake.
CATFISH:
12,000lbs of catfish to 30lbs in size were stocked last Summer. Warming water temps have picked up the catfish bite in recent weeks. Mackerel and sardines fished tight to structure has been producing some really nice catfish to 12lbs in size!
