Fish Report for 4-6-2012
Trout and Kokanee are near the surface at Pardee Reservoir
4-6-2012
Fred Dorman
Pardee lake level has risen to within 3 feet of spill. EBMUD will take the Lake to spill level and then begin to generate and release water to fill Camanche Reservoir. Visibility is presently good to 17 feet or beyond as measured in the Marina. Water temperatures have also remained the same and are currently 50 degrees at the 20 foot mark and 55 at surface.
Lots of Trollers on the Lake this morning concentrating upriver near Twin Coves, Deer Island and Columbia Gulch. Fishing has been good in the River Arm during the week. The Trout and Kokanee remain close to the surface at this time; keep your equipment in the 10 to 25 feet level. Uncle Larry's copper pop, pinkie and fire tiger patterns tipped with corn or night crawler are popular behind flashers or medium size dodgers for Trout while hoochies and Apex lures are working well for Kokanee. I didn't see many boats working the face of the Dam or the River Mouth today despite lots of empty trailers at the launch ramp.
A good many anglers were working the banks in the Recreation Area again this morning. Rainbow Point the shore behind the EBMUD boathouse the launch ramp and Porcupine Point were the most populated. Bank fishing has been decent throughout the week. Garlic flavored Power bait and eggs in yellow and chartreuse remain the most successful bait along with the Pistol Pete fly at the end of a 4ft leader behind a water bobber.
I also heard some good reports about some limits coming out of the Woodpile lately.
The Marina pays attention to what lures, equipment and baits anglers have the most success with and they try to stock what works. Some people are surprised at how well stocked the Marina actually is. Stop by check it out and ask the employees what's hot what's not.
Recent success stories: Reese Clark, pictured from Rocklin got this nice 3 pound Rainbow off Rainbow Point. The fish pulled the rod and reel from her grasp but Dad managed to hook the pole brought it back to Reese and she managed to finally land the monster-Congratulations well done!!!
Pardee Lake Recreation has planted 14,000 lbs. of Rainbow Trout in combination with the Department of Fish and Game plants of 5,000 for a grand total of 19,000 lbs.
