Captain Temo Verboonen reported an up and down week for the fishing from Ixtapa-Zihguatanejo, with really good fishing one day that was followed by not so good fishing the next day. Temo reported the sailfish would bit well and then the next day become finicky and not bite at all and for no apparent reason other than it's called "fishing". The water temps, clarity, feed biomass, everything being the same on both days, just one day the fish would take the day off. He says it was difficult on the no bite days because you would see the billfish jumpers, lots of fish in the area, but you had to get very lucky to make one bite. This is usually one of the peak marlin months and while a few are being caught, they have not appeared in the historical quantities. Perhaps it's just a minor change but it's anyones guess. The inshore fishing is still reflecting good quantities of chulas, (a smallish tuna that looks similar to a bonito) lots of big jack crevalle and Sierras, but limited action with the roosterfish throughout the area.

IZ Climate: Mostly sunny and warm days, changing to partly cloudy on Friday. Temps at 71 nights to 92 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Mostly calm days with light surface breezes. Sea temps at 80.5 inshore and rising to 82.5 offshore. South of IZ is a temp break that rises to 84-85 degrees.

Best Fishing Area: About 18 miles almost straight out from Zihuatanejo Bay area and angling down to the south.

Best Bait/Lure: Rigged baits have been working very well for the billfish and live bait has been best for t he inshore fish.

Bait Supply: Excellent, both fresh baits for rigging and live bait.
