Fish Report for 3-9-2012

Some large trout caught at Lake Morena this week, the largest 10.13 lbs.

Lake Conditions: Surface temp.55.0 and 49.7 @ 20 ft. Water Visibility: Is still clearing to 3' to 5'

. ** IMPORTANT NOTE** There are currently no state fishing licenses available in Lake Morena so be sure you acquire one before you arrive.

Trout: Despite the elements again this week anglers were pulling in some nice trout. Jim Rice started the week with a 10 lb. 2 oz lunker. Jennifer Frazier-Smith, pictured above from La Mesa captured her 8 lb 14 oz 'bow trolling near the dam. The trio of Jim and Ryan White with Steve Clark, in photo #1 each limited. Notable amongst the three were a 4 lb 14 oz by Jim and a 4 lb 10 oz by Steve. The common thread here is green or rainbow Powerbait in or around Paradise cove while other fishermen worked Pumphouse cove for their limits.

Bass: No action on Bass reported this week.


Carp: Still splashing, they like corn and corn meal balls.

Blue Gill: No action on the Blue Gill here lately.

Crappie: No sign of Crappie this time of year.

Catfish: Nothing reported this week.

Boat launch conditions: Due to low water levels, boat launching has become unsafe at Lake Morena. We have closed the lake to all private boat launches. We deeply regret any inconvenience this causes. Note: The boat launch ramp for private boats will be closed until further notice due to low lake levels. Kayaks are still allowed, and boat rentals are available 7 days a week. Carp: Slow. Bass: Some small ones are chasing the crank bait and small worms. Big baits were a key for a Mr. Colley, who got a 26-lb. limit by throwing swim bait. The bait was said to be home made.
