The Chico Area Flyfishers will hold its forty-first annual crab/shrimp feed and fundraising dinner at 5:30 Pm on March 2 at the Chico Masonic Center. A great assortment of raffle and auction prizes will be available, including rods and reels, guided trips, a pontoon boat and much more. CAF member Craig Lares recently made the catch of a lifetime, besting a 16-plus pound Trinity River steelhead on his light 5-6 weight 10-foot Raptor Rod Works fly rod. The big steelie hit on a golden stone pattern under an indicator. Fishing with guide Dennis Franco, Lares and party hooked 21 fish that day, landing 10, including two of sea-run brown trout.

Members Pat and Don Sleeper went down to Cabo San Lucas for what was ostensibly a golfing trip, but always have a fly rod or two stashed inside their golf bags. The pair only fished for about two hours, but managed to catch and release a jack crevalle, a sierra mackerel, and a very cute miniature roosterfish.
