"We decided to make a move and check out a different body of water," said Intrepid skipper Kevin Osborne January 12, "and it paid off big time. We had a good day yesterday, but we felt that the conditions could have been better and that there were more fish to be had elsewhere. It was just after lunch when we got to the area and it was instant.
"A couple of Frigate birds showed the way to a body of fish breezing on the surface and all it took was a few baits to spark interest. These fish are down right mean! Four out of the six fish hooked on the slide found freedom whether it was a chew off a pulled hook or what ever, some after 2 hours. At times we had 10 fish hanging: flylined baits, squid, kite, it all worked.
"We ended up with 22 fish from 140 to 250 pounds with a few even bigger fish lost after long battles. There were a couple handfuls of smaller fish in the 60 to 80 pound range to go with it, but hooking one of these lunkers was not difficult for the period of time that they were on the corner. We will be starting in the same area in the morning. We can hardly wait to see what a full day here will produce. Some times thinking outside the box really pays off and the best part is that we have it all to ourselves."
