Pacific Islander Shallow Water Freezer Filler

Homan Khaki
Fellow SFR Angler, Don Padick and I decided to jump aboard the Pacific Islander with Captain Steve Virtue at the helm as excellent reports of Lingcod and quality Rockfishing populate the SFR fishcounts! Captain Steve took fourteen anglers straight to the fishing grounds on a light load freezer filler trip. We loaded up on some really nice Whitefish, an assortment of Rockfish, Sheephead and plenty of Lings to fill our bags. The weather was forecasted to blow hard at the outer islands and that is exactly what it did. However that didn't affect our game plan as we tucked away at Santa Rosa Island and had a great day of fishing. An honorable mention must go out to the Hot Stick of the Trip - Benny! This young man put on a clinic as he ripped the lips off of an assortment of really nice grade fish. It was awesome seeing this Father and Son duo battling for the biggest fish and watching the next generation angler become so quickly attached to the wonderful world of fishing! Captain Steve Virtue was more than hospitable as he coached Benny on landing these fish. We had a great group of anglers who had a blast fishing aboard the Pacific Islander. The season is nowhere near over and the fishing is good! Get out there and get it done. Call up Channel Islands Sportfishing at 805-382-1612 to get in on the action.
