Central Coast Albacore Aboard the Pacific Queen

I decided to get in on the action and give the Central Coast Albacore a shot. First things first, I must confess, I've never fished the Central Coast. I've heard about all the stories about the epic fishing and now I'm kicking myself because I realize what I've been missing out on! So, the Albacore got my attention and I decided to take the two hour drive to Patriot Sportfishing in high hopes of landing a fish. As I got off of the 101, I'm thinking to myself this area is breath taking! When the hills opened up to the coast, I was absolutely blown away by Avila Beach's beauty. Seriously, I never expected to find such a hidden paradise flooded with Cal Poly students enjoying this gorgeous and super friendly community. The place was full of life and I'm definitely going back soon! I decided to get some dinner and a drink at one of the hot spots and then admired this community's breath taking beauty. Got to meet some local anglers who informed me about what I've been missing out on because I was too cool to drive North for two hours. After giving my head a shake, we finally boarded Bill Cavanaugh's Pacific Queen with Captain Drew at the helm. On the evening of our departure, there was buzz about a commercial sword fishing boat that hit 90 albacore all on the troll. The private fleet also slayed them between 20 and 40 miles. Okay game on!

Deep fog rolled in an hour prior to departing and the weather was cloudy pretty much all day Saturday, but the conditions were awesome. First thing in the morning I raffled off some gear from our sponsors to make the trip successful including Seaguar Fluorocarbon, Owner Hooks, Sportfishingreport shirts, beanies, and tank tops, and some very popular outerwear from Keep'n It Reel. Our first troll fish yielded a nice 35 pounder, and the next jig strike a couple peanut Albies. There was only one bait fish on the first stop, but the rest of the day we metered a lot of fish with an occasional double jig strike on the circle troll as we offered up some fresh sardines to get their attention. On our last jig strike of the day, the school wanted to play so we boarded a few more last minute fish. We managed to land 16 fish for our trip, three of which I went home with. The quality grade of these fish were incredible! It was great to fish the Pacific Queen again and the Crew was top notch as usual. Captain Drew is a fish killing machine and it was great to land my first Central Coast Albacore. The conditions and water were looking good for the days and weeks to come. Hopefully they'll stick around so we can get a few more swings at them. Call up Patriot Sportfishing now to get in on the action at 800-714-FISH!
