Northeast Zone waterfowl opener is Saturday

Tomorrow [Saturday Oct. 8] marks the opening day for waterfowl hunting in the "Northeast Zone" of the state. This has traditionally been the first opportunity for California waterfowl hunters to pursue their quarry, but the past two years have seen the already-completed short "Early Goose Season" that ran Oct. 1-5 take a bit of the edge off of the anticipation.

"We are hearing from some hunters who are heading up north to Klamath or Almanor, but not as many as in years past", reported Dave Ebright at Chico Sportsman's Den. "A lot of people did very well during the early goose season."

Ebright tipped, "The reservation cards of the past are no longer being used. Waterfowl reservation applications must be made either online using the Automated License Data System or at a license agent. The state waterfowl stamp is no longer an actual stamp, just a validation. Federal stamps can still be purchased at the Post Office or at a license dealer."
