Sam Patella docked American Angler at Pt. Loma Sportfishing October 2 after a seven-day Ken's Custom Reels charter with 24 anglers aboard. The group scored well. "We had good yellowtail and dorado fishing," said Sam, "and we got some yellowfin and wahoo and white seabass, too. My last three trips have been so good we had to drive away from 'em."

Don Lindsay of Oceanside won first place for a 34.4-pound yellowtail he caught on a dropper loop rig with a 12-punce sinker. He said he fished a sardine on a 6/0 Mustad hook tied to 60-pound P-Line and 80-pound Izorline spectra on a Tiburon 16 reel and a custom 6465 M Calstar rod.

Marianne Harris of Ramona won second place for her 31.6-pound yellowtail. Cane Roberts of Oceanside took third for a 30.8-pounder. Dick Brown of Carlsbad stood in the lineup shot with a 40.8-pound wahoo that bit on a 12-inch, vinyl-skirted root beer-colored Zucker's jig. Frank Hess of Oceanside rounded the lineup off with a 27-pound dorado.
