Mike Pritchard docked Intrepid after an eight-day trip with Richard Hightower of H&H Outdoor Marketing as chartermaster for the 26 anglers aboard. The trip was sponsored by Newell/Seaguar/Catchy Tackle/Hayabusa and Yo-Zuri, and products from those companies were given out during the adventure. "We fished down The Ridge from Uncle Sam Bank to Thetis Bank," said Pritchard, and we spent three-quarters of a day out at Alijos Rocks for just a few tuna." The last of the trip was spent catching school tuna at about 160 miles. The catch was plentiful for yellowtail, tuna and dorado.

Mike Min of Gardena won first place for a 31.2-pound yellowtail. "I got him on a pink and gold Raider jig," said Mike, who used 50-pound Izorline XXX line, 60-pound Izor spectra on a Trinidad 40 reel and a GRUSA eight-foot rod after a ten-minute dustup.

Cindy Lau of San Jose tied with Joel Norman of Oakdale for second and third places. Their yellowfin each weighed 30.2 pounds.
