9-15-2011
CDFG
Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced the reappointment of Kevin Hunting as Chief Deputy Director of the California Department of Fish
and Game (DFG).
Hunting, 54, has served in the role since January 2010 when he was appointed by the former governor.
"Kevin has been an invaluable part of the team at Fish and Game for nearly two decades," DFG Director Charlton Bonham said. "The experience and knowledge he has gained and brings to the table is unmatched. Quite simply, there is no better person for this job and I commend the Governor's decision."
In addition to Chief Deputy Director, Hunting has served as Deputy Director of the Ecosystem Conservation Division, Deputy Director of Regional Operations, Chief of the Habitat Conservation Branch and Regional Manager of the South Coast region. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Biology from Humboldt State University and has worked in wildlife management, conservation planning and resource assessment for more than 25 years.
He has been a key figure in renewable energy and wildlife policy and represents DFG and the state on the Western Governor's Wildlife Council, the National Fish, Wildlife, and Plant Climate Adaptation Strategy steering committee, and a number of other state and federal initiatives effecting wildlife and conservation policy in California.
