Early Results for the Patriot Sportfishing "Big Ling" Contest
9-6-2011
Patriot Sportfishing Staff
Our Big Ling Contest started on September 1st. On Sunday the 4th we got 3 beautiful fish to start us off. Our current leaders are:
1st place Guy Leo of San Jose 26# 4 oz
2nd place William Chong of Cerritos 19#
3rd place Brad Hudson of Bakersfield 18# 12 oz
The contest is open to any paying customer fishing on our boats and your ticket is the only cost required for your entry fee on that trip.
The 1600th ling cod was caught September 4th in this 2011 season! We put almost 600 on our boats for the month of August!
The fishing has been excellent, due in part, to live bait being provided for most trips through Capt. Steve Moore on the Rose Mar.
In August we ran 59 rockcod trips, 34 of them had limits for every angler! We had 1,680 anglers on our boats for a total of 14,807 fish. In addition to rockfish our August anglers also brought in Sheephead, Rock Sole and Halibut.
A few albacore have also been caught by local private boaters in the last few days. We are keeping tabs on all the reports and if we can start running trips we'll let you know. The Pacific Queen is scheduled to be here October 8th.

Patriot Landing reports that private boaters brought in 75 salmon, most in the 20 pound range with a few 30+ pounders sprinkled here and there. Sunday's bite was early and then they shut off. The ones that got out first did well. Most of the boats came in early due to the wind and didn't wait to see if the tide change would turn the bite back on. Patriot landing will be running trips Monday through Thursday. These will...... Read More
