Fish Report for 9-1-2011

Ventura Landing ~ REPORT for September 1st

9-1-2011
Mike Thompson

Island Spirit got out this morning with a lite load (17), and found itself at the islands with perfect weathe!. The "big swell" was nothing in open water and had no effect. Fishing was good in shallow for rockfish (limits), with some sheephead and lingcod topping off the sacks.
The water is still a bit too cool for the bass and yellowtail, however things could be changing soon.
Looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend!

Ventura Sportfishing has several trips online for this, the week and weekend of Labor Day! Every day, departing at 6am for 3/4 day fishing, also departing at 10pm we will have our overnight boat running to the outer islands. Thursday through Sunday, departing at 5:30pm we will be running twilight trips also!

Whats being caught?
Rockfish is always on the menu here in the Channel Islands area.. nothing better for the dinner plate!
Sand Bass are FINALLY here and biting hard! Also excellent eating, these bass are fun shallow water fighters.
Barracuda are also still around, and probably the most fun when caught on a surface jig.
White Seabass are in the area, but not biting like everyone would like.. however they could just be holding out till the holiday weekend?
Halibut are still being caught.. several record catches already this season, and most averaging over 30lbs.
Sheephead and Whitefish are also biting on our shallow reefs. These fish fight hard, and can range in size but we have recently seen sheephead in the 20lb size class.
Many other species to see ~including calico bass, yellowtail, sculpin, and lingcod. Every day is different, so you never know what you'll catch!

Ventura Sportfishing is quickly becoming known for it's 1st class crew members.. You'll find the crouds are less, thus more elbow room at the rail! FREE parking, and FREE coffee inside the landing office, a full tackle shop with rental gear and licenses available.. Come "beat the heat" and relax with us aboard one of our sportfishig vessels.
