8-21-2011
Bill Roecker
Shogun arrived at Fisherman's Landing August 21 after a five-day Will Fish Tackle trip with 22 anglers aboard. The group got in on some of the good tuna fishing happening some 12 hours south of Pt. Loma. Skipper Bruce Smith said the water in the area was about 68 degrees, some ten miles south of a strong, dirty water break.
"The tuna could move at least that much closer anytime, with no problem," he said. Jacob Kinney of Meridian, ID,pictured above won first place for a husky 63.5-pound bluefin tuna. He caught in on a 30-pound rental outfit.
Bob DuPont of Reno, NV won second place for a 43-pound bluefin and Mike Maynard of Colfax got third place for a 42.6-pound bluefin tuna.
