Deer Creek Report

Heading up Highway 32 is a good choice for some R&R, reported Tom Morgan at Foothill Outfitters in Forest Ranch. "The planted trout fishing on Deer Creek has been very good, regular plantings have been going on all summer", observed Morgan. "Most success has been above Elam, and the fish are spreading out all over. The best bait has been threaded mini-crawlers, but Pautzke's Salmon Eggs have also been good. We like to use a bobber so that the fish are just hooked in the lip and are easier to release.

Morgan tipped, "Stick with nothing heavier than two to four pound-test line. Just about any fly pattern is also working right now. Try Flying Ant, Adams, or Mosquito fly patterns in size 16 or smaller. Evenings have also seen some good dry-fly action on the surface."

It's also pretty amazing how good the trout fishing has been, considering we have not stocked any...... Read More
