The five-day Bekendam/Jackson trip aboard Red Rooster III with skipper Andy Cates concluded August 8, when Cates docked the boat at H&M Landing. Anthony Medina of Santa Ana won first place for his 42.85-pound yellowtail.
"It was a great fight," said Anthony, "and it lasted about 15 minutes."
He said he got his prizewinner on a mackerel and a 4/0 Owner Super Mutu hook tied to 40-pound Seaguar fluorocarbon. He also used 40-pound main line, 65-pound Power Pro spectra backing, an Accurate BX-2 400 reel and a Calstar 700 H rod. Scooter Richardson of Buell, ID won second place for a 40.85-pound 'tail. Alan Forbush of Grants Pass, OR found a 40-pound jurel, good for third place.
Ron Hendrickson of Ontario won the trolling jackpot for a 21.7-pound yellow that took an aluminum cedar plug. Ron owns Johnson Marine on West Holt Blvd. in Ontario.
