Ranger 85 and Coral Sea

What a weekend.

First I must say that often I agonize on how to give updates on our activity, and then realize I’m fortunate to be able to offer my customers the best of both worlds.

For those of you not following, the Ranger 85 is fishing offshore in departing from San Diego and we have extended our Channel Islands calendar for the Coral Sea due to the incredible fishing here around the islands.

This past weekend was tough fishing offshore for the guys that make this trip an annual event.

The 1.5 on the Ranger 85 while not very productive in terms of a fish count, was a great time shared by all the regulars who make this trip every year, the weekend following the 4th.

Large schools of Bluefin are present but not biting.  Scattered albacore continue to be caught, yet no big scores making their mark. Looking at the overall set up, we remain optimistic things are poised to pop any day.

As in all fishing, we must be able to adapt to an ever changing conditions, and that’s exactly what we are doing.

We bumped our departure time up for the 2.5 day trip that departed last night and made our target destination San Martin Island to target trophy yellows that have been biting. I’ will keep you updated as details come in. As of this time, the guys were just arriving at the island at 10am and Captain Dustin will check in throughout the day, I’ll keep you posted.  Wish I was onboard.

We have several trips coming up on the Ranger 85 varying in in duration from 1.5 to 3.5 days.

Whatever the bite may hold, we guarantee you will have an enjoyable time targeting game fish whether offshore or along the Baja coast. We at Ranger 85 Sportfishing pride ourselves in offering the customer the most personable experience provided anywhere.

Please take the opportunity to join us on some of our trips this season.

The Coral Sea this weekend had a 2 Day Charter fishing the Northern Channel Islands targeting White Seabass.

The charter group was new to the boat and did we have a great time.

On Saturday the guys kicked A$$ landing 48 seabass for the 19 anglers onboard. After that, we bounced around the island fishing calico bass etc.

The water jumped almost 2 full degrees and we managed some incredible sportcoats.

Santa Rosa never ceases to amaze when it wants to bite.

We anchored up for the evening, had dinner and all were tired from a full day of fishing…we started at 0330…Sunday morning was a bit more anticlimactic, as we set up on the grounds and just could not get established; but that’s seabass fishin…one day you’re on top, the next, you sit in the stands and watch. We managed a few, as well as halibut to 35lbs.

The overall trip was a success with all onboard achieving their main goal…to decompress and spend a few relaxing days on the water fishing and recreating with friends.

Thanks Gerry and everyone else onboard…if all charter groups were like you guys, this would be EVERYONES dream job. I look forward to our next trip together.

The Coral Sea has several trips coming up that I think will be of interest to many.

We depart tomorrow evening, Tues July 12 from CISC on overnight Outer Island trip as well as Wed July 13, Fri July 15 and Saturday July 16. These trip depart at 10 pm and offer the angler the best opportunity at targeting White Seabass and a shot at a record HALIBUT!

In addition to phenomenal fishing, you will be fishing in some of the most scenic and pristine waters off the Southern California Coast. Take the time. Take a trip offshore and fish the Outer Channel Islands.

If you don’t have the time to spend offshore, we are offering a 5 to 5 trip this Friday as well.

We depart 5am Friday July 15 fishing the more local island waters.

Lately these trips have been producing great results as well.

Don’t miss out. Fish onboard the Coral Sea with the same customer service oriented crew you come to enjoy onboard the Ranger 85.

We will work hard to ensure your experience is positive, fun and productive.

You can view our schedule online @ CoralSeaSportfishing.com and click on the schedule tab…or contact us direct @ 805 794 9653.

We look forward to being able to offer you the best Sportfishing has to offer this season from the Channel Islands to below the Mexican Border.
