Silver Lake delivers lots of 3 lb. trout plus a sampling of Golden Trout washed down from above
7-9-2011
Andrew Jones
I know I sound like a broken record but fishing at Silver Lake has been spectacular for the past several weeks. All the normal baits are working great; Salmon Peach and Garlic Power Baits, Thomas Buoyant, and worms have been the top fish nabbers with flies holding their own. This past week we easily had another 30 plus 2 pounds and above trout come into our scales, thanks to another load of Alper's Trout on Wednesday and another 900 pounds of DFg catchables also getting dumped into the lake this week.
We have also had a few beautiful Golden Trout surface in the lake this week having been pushed down from the upper lakes through Alger Creek. Streamers have been doing real well and dry flies have been knocking them dead early morning and late in the afternoon. Try using a Rainbow Hornberg or a Green Wooly Bugger or a Dry Mosquito, a Elks Hare Caddis or a Black Gnat with a Red tail. Both Rush Creek and Silver have been producing nothing but quality fish.
Dillan Baehr, with some help from family, hauled in a great stringer full of fish from a boat. Steve Archer of Anaheim keeps reeling in some great rainbows, with a great 3 lb 12 oz he caught on Rush Creek using Salmon Eggs. James Olson of San Diego reeled in a great 3 lb 8 oz rainbow from Rush creek using Salmon Eggs also. John Jessee of Carson City landed a great 3 lb 12 oz rainbow from his float tube using a Wooly Bugger. While Bryce Chandler of Temecula caught a 3 lb rainbow from a boat using good old fashioned worms; he needed some help from his friends to land this one.
It just doesn't get to much better than this for some nice 2 to 4 pound rainbows. Keep your lines in the water and keep reeling them in. Happy Fishing!!!
