Fish Report for 7-8-2011
Temperature changes tend to cool the fishing at Pardee
7-8-2011
Fred Dorman
Cooling trend forecast for this weekend and continuing into next week.
No change to the Lake level, it remains full to capacity and continues to cascade over the spillway and on towards Comanche. Good visibility to 12 feet, water temperatures have warmed to 62 degrees at the 20 foot mark and 66 at the surface as recorded in the Marina.
Reports indicate Kokanee were a little harder to catch last week, those that got them again worked the River Mouth and along the southern end of the Lake between the spillway buoy line and the eastern shoreline. Lures and method remains constant, Apex lures tipped with scented shoe peg corn, Uncle Larry's fire tiger, pinky and copper pops with corn, pink /white hoochies all behind a small Sep's dodger (in rainbow, silver/blue or gold) have all been working well for the Trollers. The Marina reports Trollers are now fishing for Trout and Kokanee at 30 to 50 foot depths.
Best Trout trolling areas have been just outside the Narrows and between the Dam and River Mouth and some have done well upriver near Twin Coves. Some anglers have begun tying up in coves at the South end and bait fishing with good results. Small lures, needlefish, wobblers, Sep's and Uncle Larry's fire tiger all tipped with corn or a bit of night crawler behind a dodger still the best combination.
The bank fishing improved a bit last week after the plant. The continuing cool water temperatures encourage planters to hold in the Rec. Area longer. Hot spots are the same-the EBMUD boathouse, Launch Ramp, TomSawyerIsland and Rainbow Point. Kastmasters continue to be super hot, silver/blue and silver/chartreuse ? oz size. The sliding sinker set up is best; the hottest bait is still yellow/garlic Power Bait with sparkles.
Recent success story; Michael and Emilie of San Jose landed this nice 5.18 lb. Rainbow using night crawlers at the Rec. Area spillway. Congratulations-well done!!!
Some catfish in the 2 to 6lb size have been caught in the coves at the southern end and in Mel's cove on the backside of the floating bathroom.
