Hello Anglers,

Hi Anglers and welcome to day one of Gino Vent's 4 day. With reports of slow Albacore and Bluefin fishing we were forced with the tough decision of were to start our trip. Shortly after leaving the harbor we received word from the Spirit Of Adventure that there was good sign of Yellowtail at San Martin Isl., so we decided to head down the beach 140 miles. With flat calm weather we made good speed and arrived at San Martin before daylight, so we dropped anchor and waited. But, we didn't have to wait long. At 0600 we hooked our first Yellow, and shortly after that they charged the boat. Most of the fish were in the 18 to 22 pound range with a few nice ones over 25. You could catch them any way you wanted. Most of our guys chose the flyline, but a few liked fishing the iron, especially the surface iron. Watching a couple guy's up on the bow fishing their 9' and 10' rods with a Tady 45 or Salas 7X surface iron was entertaining enough. On just about every cast they would either hook a fish or have Yellowtail chasing their jigs all of the way to the boat. Fun times to be had by all. After catching Yellowtail for a while we ran in to shallow water for a shot at some Halibut and some Calico Bass. Scott Gardner ended up with a nice 30# Halibut, and some lucky anglers ended up with some nice Calico's up to 9 pounds. We will be heading out to fish for Albacore and Bluefin tomorrow It sounds like it has picked back up, with good spots of Albacore and Bluefin up to 100#. We will let you know how it is. Mike Pritchard.

Hello Anglers,

We arrived at Ben's Rock at San Martin at daylight and sat there with good water and current but we never hooked anything of note. We picked up the anchor and looked at another spot and had better water color and temperature and found there to be good sign around the shallow. When we got the anchor down we had a few fish boil around and finally hooked one , then two , then three and just had a...... Read More
