Hello Anglers,
Today was our first day of fishing and we did not get the anchor down until 1200. After looking around for wahoo and picking up some small tuna for chunk bait we got the anchor down where we felt we saw the most life. It was not long before we hooked our first couple of fish. They were the smaller grade, 80 to 100 pound fish, but after a handful of those we did not tag a fish under 130 pounds. There were a few times that the skipjack would swim by and we would hook better fish and the lucky guys who caught skipjack for bait were rewarded with fish up to 210 pounds. Dennis Braid of Braid Products was the first to land a 200 pound fish this trip. We had a fish come up tail wrapped that freaked out next to the boat and broke off that looked to be 220 pounds or better. Another lucky angler was Pete Gammarno with a 198 pound yellowfin he caught on a chunk and 100 pound line. For only fishing a half a day we had good numbers for our count. There were five angler's today who caught their personal best on yellowfin and there are a few more on board that have not caught a fish over 40 pounds so we hope to get them there personal best. I cannot sat enough about the kind of quality yellowfin that have been caught down here this year. Any time your average fish is 130 to 160 pounds what more could you ask for. There is still plenty of these big ones around, its just putting your time in at the rail and waiting for your turn at one. We will check in tomorrow. Shawn and the crew P.S. Austin Egan wanted the folks at home to know that he went three for three on yellowfin over 130 pounds and Mike says hello to Vanessa at home.
