"Today we arrived at the tuna grounds," wrote Excel skipper Mike Ramirez June 14, "and were greeted with the nicest weather of the trip. After a lone albacore jig strike, we soon began to see spots of jumping bluefin. After a couple attempts, we were able to get one to come to the boat. Several anglers hooked up almost immediately on fly lined sardines. We continued to drift with one to two fish hanging for most of the time. There was definitely no shortage of fish in the area. Our next stop had similar results with fish in the 30 to 60-pound range. After all was said and done, every angler on the boat had caught at least one tuna. We will spend tomorrow working our way up the line toward home. We will arrive at Fisherman's Landing Wednesday morning."
