"We are down south at Hurricane Bank," wrote Red Rooster III skipper Andy Cates June 1, on the last long trip of the 2006-2007 big tuna season."We got there at 9 am and trolled till noon for 86 wahoo. We are planning on anchoring up and fishing tuna the rest of the afternoon. On the way down, we had one stop and picked up two tuna over 200 pounds. Erik Olson caught a 285-pounder and Mike Butler got a 236; they're in contention??for brand new a Boss Accurate reel.
"We had another great day on the wahoo," he wrote June 3.??"Final total was 75 for the day.?? Tuna fishing is slow with five tuna landed. Bob Rubalcabo was hot, landing a 216 and a 180-pounder. So far this morning we have 17 more wahoo and 2 tuna.??Bob Cherry landed a 180-pound fish but the sign of tuna that had been around has gone. With the weather continuing to improve, and 3 days left of fishing time, we are going to try the 6- mile area around the islands.
The Red Rooster III is scheduled to dock at H&M Landing June 10.
