Hi gang, We arrived back from our first offshore 1.5 day trip of the season on Sunday morning. Although I was unable to fish the area I would have liked because of weather, we made the most of what we had to work with. I started near the hidden bank at first light, worked to the southeast most of the morning, then worked north to fish the rock pile late in the afternoon. We ended up with one yellowtail, 57 bonito, and 42 mixed rockfish and sculpin for our efforts. I was encouraged by good looking water in a few areas during this trip, we caught our yellowtail offshore on a kelp paddy, and most of our bonito (which were 7-12 pounds) came out of two bait stops with fish boiling in the corner and guys hooking fish right behind the boat. All good signs and the bonito fishing was just like albacore stops...lot's of fun. We have 1.5 day offshore trips scheduled every weekend through the rest of June and our next trip departs friday night June 3rd., fishing saturday, and returning sunday morning at 6:00 am. We are all excited about getting back out on the water and with a good weather forecast for the end of the week and a couple of albacore being caught on the American Angler yesterday, we might be getting into some great fishing very soon.
