Lake Camanche Staff
LAKE CONDITIONS: Lake Camanche's current elevation is 213.1 feet above sea level, a drop of .5 feet this week. The lake will drop slowly this week.??There is currently no water flowing into Lake Camanche and water is flowing out of Lake Camanche at 290 c.f.s. The surface water temperature at the marina has warmed up to 74 degrees.
TROUT: Trollers fishing early and late in the day continue to have good luck for trout, but most are finding that the fish are holding down between 35-40 feet deep. Two anglers from Ione reported catching limits of trout, up to 3 pounds, while trolling Sep's watermelon dodgers with a nightcrawler. They were using downriggers set at 35 feet early in the morning, and dropped down to 40 feet by 11 a.m. They were fishing in the area near Hat Island and the dam.
The bait fishing continues to be very, very good for anglers at Dike 3. Locals Ryan Long and his son Michael, and friend Robbie Dobler spent the night on their pontoon boat at Dike 3 this week. They anchored in 40 feet of water and dropped down underwater lights (available at North marina). They ended up with 3 limits of beautiful trout, with one 8 pounder, FIVE 5 pounders, and the rest between 1 ??-3 pounds. After catching their limits, they caught and released over 20 more trout. They were using Power Bait, and nightcrawlers, and had a night to remember and fish stories to tell for years. Way to go, Ryan!
Another group of marina regulars have been having the same kind of luck lately at Dike 3. These gentlemen like to fish the left hand side of Dike 3, near the road and gate in that area. They fish in 35-40 feet, using Power Bait, and almost always come in with 2 limits of trout. I have seen them with many fish over 5 or 6 pounds this spring, and they always fish early in the morning.
Richard and Susan Skidmore were out boating on Memorial Day Monday. They wanted to get away from all the action on the main lake, so they went up the river to find a calm spot to anchor. Richard decided to drop some Power Bait to see if he might catch a fish, and they came in that evening with 5 gorgeous trout to weigh in, all over 3 pounds, with the biggest over 4 pounds. They were fishing about 30 feet deep, and caught all their fish in the afternoon.
Bob Walsh, from Thunder Valley Casino in Lincoln, and his good friend Liqiong Weng, from Elk Grove, rented a pontoon boat at North Shore on Friday. Liqiong had never caught a fish before, so they went up the river to relax and try and find some trout. After sunning for a while Bob decided to drift a nightcrawler down about 30 feet deep, and in 2 minutes Liqiong caught a beautiful 3 ?? pound trout. They put the bait out again, and caught two more 3 pound trout. All this happened in 45 minutes, and Bob decided to go back to camp and cook up a fish. He said the fish tasted great, Liqiong has great memories to tell her family, and we hope to see them back here at Lake Camanche sometime soon.
BASS: Two gentlemen from Elk Grove had a very good day of bass fishing on Tuesday. They caught and released over 20 bass, up to 4 pounds, while fishing in the main lake near Dikes 1 and 2. They were using 5 inch Senko worms in brown or purple, and caught most of their fish early in the day. All their fish came in less then 15 feet of water.
CATFISH: Catfishing continues to be good for campers and boaters. A lot of catfish have been caught in Camanche Arm (South Shore marina cove), by anglers using mackerel, chicken liver, and nightcrawlers. Campers at North Shore have been catching catfish from shore in Camper's Cove, Rabbit Creek, and the Causeway area. Rocky areas are best to try, and early and late in the day, or at night, is usually best.
We encourage all anglers to report their stories, comments, or concerns to either North Shore Store, South Shore Store, or to us by email at eporray@camancherecreation.com. Thanks again for choosing Lake Camanche for your recreation destination.
