Frank Ursitti - Ranger 85

WOW...what a weekend. We departed CISC Friday evening starting a 2 Day with a game plan in mind. We knew if we could stay out of the weather on Saturday, we would be rewarded Sunday with great conditions. We began our trip tucked up close to the island halibut fishing. The first morning we bagged 3 keepers and had a couple shorts. We decided to roll up our sleeves and go to work. By the end of the day we had limits of Lingcod and a nice catch of quality Channel Islands Rockfish for 33 anglers onboard. The weather started to come up again as forecast but was expected to blow itself out by midnight. We tucked up tight in the anchorage and enjoyed a great dinner and began processing the days catch. I believe everyone onboard was down and asleep by 10pm, as we had a mountain of fish to process and the boat seemed deserted. Talk about a recipe for a sound night's sleep...limit style fishing from sunup till sundown (14 hours), slow roasted Tri-Tip for dinner and a nice calm anchorage...textbook Ranger 85! We decided to change zip codes for the 2nd day of fishing and pulled anchor at 0230 and headed out. Again we began day 2 with a few halibut drifts and to our delight managed 3 more keepers with the largest tipping the scales at 32 lbs; nice one Steve! With room for improvement on our overall score, we again decided to roll up our sleeves and get to work topping off our bags. Everyone onboard fished hard and again we managed to put together a phenomenal catch of fish. We had trip limits of quality Channel Islands Rockfish, 660; Trip Limits of Lingcod, 132; 6 Halibut and 40 miscellaneous mixed fish. I can't thank all onboard enough for fishing hard and putting together such a great catch. This trip once more felt as if I was fishing with great friends and family; oh wait, I was! There we only a couple guys onboard that had not fished with us before and that's just incredible. The list is so long...Lloyd, Scott, Mike, Matt and all with the Fish Moore group...always look forward to you guys fishing with us...Jim and Steve Mason, what a great time reminiscing about trips past...Craig, it was a blast...Stevie G, need I say more, you shined like always and so good to see you back fishing and just to spend a couple days hanging out together...Fred, I caught you smiling several times...Danny and Bruce, hope we didn't wear you out too much, I was worried you were going to sleep through dinner 'cause you were so beat for catchin'...Rick, Jake and all...was nice to fish with you again Rick, been a while and Jake, the pics look just like your dad as a young man...crazy...Nick, James and Jay, just to have you onboard and to really sit back and think of the history and time you all have spent onboard the Ranger 85 and to see you still here, well that's the biggest compliment. I know I did not mention all, but you get the picture, it really was a great weekend for all onboard including myself...how fortunate am I that this is my career? Well, that's the weekend roundup. We have a few 2 Day trips yet to come on board the Ranger 85. Memorial Day weekend has a few openings and there are several weekends in June with availability as well. You can book online @ RANGER85.com or contact CISC @ 805 382 1612. We look forward to fishing with you on future trips. Capt. Frank
