Striper Action is heating up at New Hogan Lake

5-8-2011
Bruce Hamby

Striper action is starting to heat up! This weeks outing produced line sides 3 to 5 lbs. We also caught some smaller fish we didn't keep.

Try trolling the main lake from the dam to the narrows. The lethargic bass fell for shad, anchovies and haring laced with Pro-Cure scent. Our presentation was a very open role at a extremely slow speed. Target depth was 10 to 17 feet, however we marked fish as far down as 50 feet, but wasn't interested.

Good news Hogan has plenty of water this year. Two of the ramps are under the water. However, the west ramp is fully operational with ample parking. The higher lake levels will only make fishing much better. Water conditions are very good with only a small amount of debris. The lake level is holding with a surface temperature 69.7 degrees.

Picture shows Warren Cooper of Elk Grove settled for these 4 nice Stripers out of 6!

However, some of our better fish came off shad pattern...... Read More
