Ventura Landing ~ 04/28/11 ~ WINDY Report for today, April 28th
4-29-2011
Mike Thompson
STRONG WINDS killed fishing today. Island Spirit departed this morning on a charter with moderate sea's, headed to the islands. Knowing the wind would come up at some point today, our anglers wanted to still give it a try. After a bumpy ride out the Island Spirit settled on the backside of Santa Cruz Island to find a lee to fish in.
Fishing started out good with reds and chucklehead rockfish, but quickly the wind came up. 20 to 25 knots steady, it became too difficult to stay over a spot. With a few fish per angler in the sacks, they desided to come in early. On the way in, the wind picked up to even higher speeds... proving they made the correct choice to come home early.
Fortunatly, it looks like we have excellent weather on the horizon. We hope to make up for some lost days here this weekend and coming week.
Still seabass and big reds to be had.. so stay tuned for our next report!
