I.G.F.A. New Yellowfin Record!

3-9-2011
Gary Graham

There will be a press conference tomorrow, Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 4:00 pm PST to announce and award the new All-Tackle World Record for yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) to Mike Livingston of Sunland, California. His 405 lb fish was boated on the Vagabond captained by Mike Lackey on November 30, 2010 off the coast of Magdalena Bay, Mexico. After fighting the mammoth tuna for 2 hours and 40 minutes, Livingston bested a record set in 1977 by Curt Wiesenhutter, whose 388 lb yellowfin catch held the title for 33 years.

"I'd say it's one of the most significant world-record catches in recent history," IGFA President Rob Kramer has commented. "It's great to see a fish like this caught by an angler that knew the rules and adhered to them."

The press conference will be held at the Vagabond Sportfishing booth (booth #717) at the Fred Hall Show at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center, 300 East Ocean Boulevard, Long Beach, California. In attendance will be California IGFA Trustee Mike Farrior, IGFA President Rob Kramer, IGFA Conservation Director Jason Schratwieser, IGFA Development Director Eric Combast, angler Mike Livingston and Captain Mike Lackey, as well as the first appearance of the mount made of the new All-Tackle record yellowfin tuna.

A couple of marlin were caught on the Pacific side. A swordfish in the range...... Read More
