Visit our fish packing house and watch as one of our employees prepare and vacuum pack your catch of the day. Playing volleyball or horse shoes, taking a walk or telling stories about the one that got away are all part of the EAGLES NEST LODGE after dinner experience.

HALIBUT FISHING:
The majority of our halibut fishing is done in the Icy Straights between 80-240 feet of water within 15-30 minutes from the dock. We fish for halibut with either bait or jigs. Squid, herring, and pollock are our primary bait. Most of the time we anchor up to halibut fish, but we do occasionally drift fish for them. We have some of the best halibut fishing around, with the potential to catch a record fish at anytime. The average halibut our clients catch range with 20 to 200 pounds, although every year there are a few over 300 pounds.

SALMON FISHING:
There are 5 species of salmon, but we concentrate most of our efforts on King and Silver Salmon. Most salmon fishing is done with down riggers, with either herring or imitation squid. However, we do river drop-offs for Sockeye, Pink, and Silver Salmon. Most King fishing in May, June and July, and our Silver fishing from mid July through September. Generally, Kings range from 15 to 40 pounds with occasional fish near 50 pounds. We fish for King Salmon on the outer coast , as well as inside near the Icy Straights. Silver Salmon fishing is mostly done within 10 miles of the dock; and can be extremely fast fishing! Most Silvers range from 7 to 20 pounds. King Salmon have a minimum size restriction of 28 inches to keep.

LING COD FISHING:
Ling Cod fishing is done on the outer coast on mostly rock structure from 50 to 200 feet of water. Even though there is a slot limit for lings of 30-35 inches, it is still really fun to catch and release over-sized lings. Knowing that at anytime you might catch a 60 pound, 5 foot ling cod with a mouth that could swallow a volleyball. We catch most of our ling cod on big grub jigs, although they are very aggressive with small bait fish too!

ROCKFISH FISHING:
Catching rockfish is always fun, because it is fast fishing with several possible colors of rockfish. The most common types of rockfish we catch are dusky rockfish which look like black bass, and yelloweye rockfish which are often known as red snapper. The other types we catch are china rockfish, quillback rockfish, canary rockfish, and tiger rockfish. We catch rockfish with needle fish jigs and grub jigs. Most of the rockfish we catch range from 2 to 15 pounds!

Salmon Shark FISHING:
Fishing for salmon sharks is fairly unpredictable, mostly because they roam in search of salmon constantly. Usually the best time for salmon sharks is mid July through August when there are a lot of Silver Salmon and Pink Salmon around. Salmon sharks are as exciting as any fish you have ever caught, they swim over 60 miles per hour, and range from 200 to 800 pounds! As far as bait, they like anything that is oily and looks fresh! For anyone that wants a rush try hooking into a salmon shark!
