Pardee Fish Report 4-1-2011

4-1-2011
Fred Dorman

The Lake is presently spilling and will continue as snow melts in the Sierras. Lake is full to the tree line. Recent rains have again muddied the waters and deposited lots of debris which has limited visibility to 6 to 8 feet at best. Water temps have warmed a little and are 52 degrees at 20'and 56 degrees at surface as measured in the Marina.

Bank fishermen have returned to the Park since the weather has improved. This morning's plant is sure to put smiles on faces and fish on stringers. Hot spots are the same-the EBMUD boathouse, Launch Ramp, TomSawyerIsland, the banks on either side of the Marina gangway and Rainbow Point. Try silver/blue Kastmasters soon after the plant, a black wooly bugger behind a clear bobber/float and sliding sinker set ups thereafter. The Marina says white power eggs, chartreuse garlic flavored Power Bait with sparkles and dark green Power Bait is working the best of all the available varieties.

Trollers are concentrating on the River Mouth and up River to Indian Rock. The Kokanee are congregating very close to the surface in the first 10 ft. At last report the Kokanee were primarily along the River Arm and biting on Apex lures tipped with scented shoe peg corn, Uncle Larry's fire tiger and copper pops behind a small dodger. There were some Kokes to 14 inches taken during the week! Trout are also active in the same region but a bit deeper at 20 feet and they prefer Uncle Larry's lures with worms and or corn. Still no reports of German Browns but they will show up soon, try a mid-size broken back Rapala trout minnow behind a silver/green dodger at 50 feet near the Rock Wall, some beautiful fish come out of there every year.

Bass fishing has also been good lately along submerged structure and rocky outcroppings; swim baits have been very effective.

The Pardee Lake Media Day is scheduled for this Saturday April 2, 2011. This event will feature Live Radio broadcasts, tips and technique seminars. There will also be opportunities to meet and greet the pros and see live on the water equipment demonstrations. This event will start at 5am and run through 3pm, see our website for further details.

Recent success stories: Earl Dalton from the Jackson Rancheria got this excellent 8.50 lb large mouth in the main body of the Lake using swim baits. Congratulations well done!!!

Lake Pardee Lake Recreation has planted 31,800 lbs in combination with The California Dept of Fish and Game plants of 6,200 lb for a grand total of 38,000 lbs of Rainbow Trout.
